I've never been able to get myself to add sugar while cooking savoury dishes (unless its in the recipe like caramelizing onions). I don't have a sense of when to add it and how much to add (even if I follow the less is more principle).
Hi Nicole. I suggest adding it towards the end, 1 tsp at a time. When I cook, I will usually start with this early in the cooking because I know I will add at least that much for a dish that will feed 3-4 people. I will then adjust at the end if it needs some more. But you can do everything at the end and not worry too much.
